Career Training Options

Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals Provides Quality Educational & Training Opportunities

Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals consists of emergency, critical care, and specialty hospitals throughout New Jersey. An important part of our mission is to provide employees with the tools they need to excel in their work. We extend this effort to the entire community of veterinary professionals, offering education, training, and career opportunities.

In addition, we reach out to those in the community with an interest in training for a veterinary health care position. From high school students to veterinary residents, Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals offers professional leadership and opportunities.

Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals offers veterinary residency programs to highly qualified veterinarians interested in specialized training.

Residency Program

Participants in our veterinary resident program may specialize in areas such as cardiology, neurology, and small animal surgery. Residents are exposed to, and actively participate in, primary patient care, daily rounds, journal club, seminars, clinical research, and investigative research projects. Typically, a residency program requires three years of training and ensures eligibility for board certification in its particular specialty.

Information & Application

If you are interested in a residency at Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals and wish to tour the hospital and meet the staff, please set up a meeting directly with the director of that specialty service. For contact names and additional information, view our Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP) program descriptions or call (732) 747-3636.

Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals offers an externship program for successful 3rd and 4th year veterinary students to further their clinical training. Participating students observe cases from diagnosis through treatment, in one of the largest privately owned veterinary specialty hospitals in the United States. Ask questions, participate in grand rounds and department rounds, and attend in-house continuing education lectures during your stay. Eligible students may apply for an externship lasting up to three weeks, with no more than two weeks spent on a single service.

A separate extern/preceptor program is available for students attending Western University School of Veterinary Medicine. This preceptor program fulfills specific requirements set forth for the Western University Fourth Year veterinary curriculum.

  • Small Animal Medicine/Surgery Internship

Information & Application

We participate in the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP) of the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians for our annual internship program. This enables us to recruit top graduate veterinarians from the United States and Canada who desire advanced training in veterinary medicine. Many of our interns pursue further training in specialized residency programs after completing our year-long internship.

To disseminate consistent and accurate information to all candidates, we host Intern Orientations. A hospital tour and meetings with various hospital personnel allows candidates the opportunity to view our hospital for a better understanding of the work environment. Candidates also meet with members of the current intern class for uncensored discussions on life as an Red Bank Veterinary Hospitals intern. One-on-one interviews with each candidate are conducted during the orientations.
